Name: Annie Carter
Hometown: Charlotte, North Carolina – Cotswold neighborhood
Years in the Charlotte area: 11 years, on and off
Q: Annie, we cannot wait to hear all about your LASIK surgery experience, but before we get to the good stuff, tell us a little bit about yourself – what do you do for work? More importantly, when you’re not working, what are your favorite things to do?
A: I’m a 4th grade teacher with Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools! But outside of my career, my favorite thing is theater – both viewing and being a part of it! I love to see as many shows as I can and have had so much fun being a part of several shows with Matthews Playhouse, the Dilworth Players, and Theatre Charlotte! I also love to sing – I perform with Carolina Voices’ Mainstage Choir in their annual Singing Christmas tree!
Q: The good news is, we know how your story ends (that is…with LASIK vision correction), but prior to your LASIK surgery, did you wear contacts or glasses? If so, for how many years?
A: I got my first pair of glasses when I was eight years old. Although, at the time I really just wanted some because my favorite book character from the Baby-Sitters’ Club wore them (ha!). Turns out, I was actually desperately in need of them. I began wearing contacts in middle school and wore those primarily. So altogether, 22 years in glasses and 18 years in contacts.
Q: Remind us again, how long ago did you have your LASIK surgery?
A: I had LASIK in January 2016.
Q: So, you’re almost 2.5 years contact-and-glasses-free! It must feel great. What do you enjoy most today with your new and improved vision, free of glasses and contacts?
A: Honestly, the time I’m happiest about my decision is waking up and immediately being able to see. As simple as that may sound, it was something I hadn’t been able to do for most of my life! I also am so glad to be done with worrying about wearing my contacts too long or having to order more contacts. I hated wearing my glasses in public, and that was always a worry in the back of my mind – my contacts getting torn or old, and I’d have to wear my glasses.
Q: So – no more prescription sunglasses, huh? Without any limitations, what are your favorite brand of sunglasses?
A: (Annie grins big after we ask her this question.) The cheapest, cutest pair I can find?! Haha! I am NOT good at keeping up with my sunglasses (or keeping them in one piece), so I tend to stay on the more affordable end of the sunglass spectrum. Right now, I have a super cute pair from Altar’d State.
Q: There’s nothing wrong with that, and at least you know what works best for you. So now that your vision is great and you can enjoy life contact lens free, do your new and improved eyes prefer the beach or the mountains?
A: I am definitely a mountains girl – App State Alumna ’07 and ’14!
Q: Annie, our last question for you is, what would you tell someone today who is considering LASIK surgery with Dr. Mozayeni at Providence Eye?
A: Do it immediately! Or at least go get your FREE consultation and then decide. I admit that I used to roll my eyes when people would say, “I don’t know why I didn’t get LASIK sooner than I did!”, but I am definitely one of those people now.
While no two LASIK patients’ corneas are the same, their stories overlap in some way, shape, or form. Like Annie, many of our past and current patients decided on LASIK because they were tired of suffering from eye infections and having to wear their contact lenses or glasses.
If you are considering LASIK surgery or would like to learn more through a FREE consultation with Dr. Mozayeni, we encourage you to contact us today! We’re here to answer all your LASIK vision correction questions and are dedicated to making life a little easier on the eyes for our awesome patients.
