Q. What is your name?
A. My name is Tori Abernethy and I am 24 years old.
Q. Is Charlotte your hometown?
A. No, I am originally from Clearwater, Florida and moved to Charlotte in June of 2013.
Q. What would you like patients to know about your home life?
A. I have been married for two and a half years to my wonderful husband Kyle Abernethy. We have only lived in Charlotte, NC for one year.
Q. When did you join Providence Eye & Laser Specialists?
A. I joined Providence Eye & Laser Specialists on June 9, 2013, and moved from Florida specifically for the opportunity to work at this incredible practice. Coming from a different state and not knowing anything about doctors in the Charlotte area, I made sure to do a good amount of research before deciding on any particular place to work.
Q. What is your role at Providence Eye?
A. I am a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and my role is to be Dr. Mozayeni’s scribe, which means I see all LASIK consultations along with Dr. Mozayeni, and I insert all of the patient’s notes into their chart for him. I also spend a few minutes with each patient, talking about how to take the next steps to better their vision, should they be deemed a worthy candidate, and helping them schedule their LASIK eye surgery.
Q. What do you like best about your position at Providence Eye?
A. I love getting to be involved in a journey such as this, where we are able to restore vision to people that have never seen anything without some form of correction. The most rewarding part of my job is assisting Dr. Mozayeni in the laser suite on LASIK eye surgery days and seeing everyone’s reaction when they sit up and look around and can see the clock on the wall for the first time. We’ve had several post-op LASIK patients bust out in tears and many others who couldn’t stop laughing or smiling. We’ve even witnessed a few post-op cases where the patients are in complete disbelief!
Q. Why did you decide Providence Eye was the right place for you?
A. I decided Providence Eye was the right place for me when I looked at all the positive reviews and feedback from actual LASIK eye surgery patients. Mostly everyone I asked said that Dr. Mozayeni was the best LASIK eye surgeon in the Charlotte area. When the reviews matched what everyone said about him, I knew this was the place for me. Integrity is really important to me, so I had no interest in working for a surgeon that just wanted to complete as many LASIK eye surgeries as possible.
Q. What do you like most about living in Charlotte?
A. I’ve really loved living in Charlotte because it is quite different than where I am from. The thing I love the most is how you have access to the mountains a few hours in one direction and the beach a few hours in the other direction.
Q. What do you like least about Charlotte?
A. Being from Florida, I do miss the beach being only a 5-minute drive away.
