Some patients simply are not suitable for refractive procedures like LASIK or PRK because of their vision, eye health or eye anatomy. Conditions such as moderate to severe nearsightedness, thin corneas, large pupils or persistent dry eye are indicators to Dr. Nunnery that LASIK or PRK may not be appropriate. The good news is that here at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists we offer EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery, which is suitable for patients with myopic (nearsighted) prescriptions between -3.0 up to -20.0 and astigmatism up to -4.0.

During this procedure, Dr. Nunnery makes a microscopic incision in the cornea enabling him to meticulously implant the EVO Implantable Collamer Lens, a biocompatible lens, just below the surface of the eye between the iris and natural lens. Unlike LASIK, no lasers are used, and no corneal tissue is removed. Patients will be awake during the procedure, however, numbing drops are instilled in the eye to eliminate the sensation of pain and patients are provided a light anesthetic to keep them relaxed and comfortable throughout their procedure.
Like LASIK and PRK, EVO ICL surgery is an outpatient procedure and takes place at our office in the procedure suite. Both eyes are done at the same time and the entire procedure takes only about 40 minutes!
The EVO Implantable Collamer Lens is designed to remain in your eye indefinitely, however, it can be removed and/or replaced by Dr. Nunnery should the need arise.
